Welcome
Hi, I'm so glad you're here.
My name is Karim (he/him) and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Portland, Oregon. I help individuals heal their trauma, increase awareness and work toward cultivating meaningful connections in their most important relationships. I am passionate about working with immigrants and refugees
I work from a perspective that is centered on acceptance, compassion, generosity, and discovery of who you are. I believe in understanding the parts of yourself that make you who you are, rather than removing them. I understand that the therapeutic relationship is also of great importance in that journey, so our sessions will challenge you, but I also hope that you look forward to our time together. I strive to allow for sessions that feel like a sanctuary from weekly life, time that's carved out just for you and your goals.
My clinical approach is grounded in Gestalt and IFS theories that seek to build awareness in the present moment by exploring how you make meaning of the world, and in tandem bolstering your insight and understanding of your view of yourself in the world. I will also bring in techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, while using gentle reflections and open ended questions. Through these methods, I hope to help you cultivate meaning, authenticity, and fulfilment from the moments that are most important to you. I understand that each individual is beginning therapy at a different place in their healing journey, and I am honored to have the opportunity to share that experience.
I am dedicated to embodying and empowering anti-racist, anti-oppressive, anti-fat biases, and trauma informed practices. As a person with both privileged and marginalized identities I am committed to honoring the boundless expressions of identity in the therapy room.
When I am not working as a counselor, I enjoy playing video games, spending time with animals, and being on the water.
